Paul Moss, 66, was serving the prison sentence in 2005 for serious drug offences before he absconded from HMP Springhill in 2013.

Two weeks ago, he was arrested at Valencia Airport. It is believed Moss had been living in Spain for some time.

The arrest came after an international investigation by Thames Valley Police, the National Crime Agency (NCA) and the Met’s Op Artemis team.

The NCA is seeking to prosecute Moss for breach of his Financial Reporting Order.

Its Asset Confiscation Enforcement Team are pursuing him in relation to an outstanding Confiscation Order totaling more than £1.3 million.

Moss arrived back in the UK last week and was returned to prison to serve the remaining nine-and-a-half years of his sentence.

Supt Olly Wright, LPA Commander for Aylesbury Vale, said: “Moss was serving a long sentence for serious drugs offences.

“He mistakenly thought that he could evade justice and absconded from HMP Springhill but after three years on the run, Moss has been located.

“His capture and return to prison demonstrates that we will continue to track absconders down whether they are at home or abroad, so that justice can be served.”

Dougal McClelland, from the NCA’s Organised Crime Command, said Moss ‘probably thought we had stop searching for him’.
