Drivers should prepare for ‘unavoidable disruption’ during road works

The Countywide Resurfacing Programme is being delivered by TfB on behalf of Bucks County Council and incorporates more than 220 schemes, which include both main routes and residential roads.

Mike Freestone, Bucks County Council’s director of transport services, said: “With a programme of this size, there will be unavoidable disruption on the network for which we apologise in advance, however we will ensure that we programme the most disruptive of the schemes during the school holidays.

“We will also carry out a significant amount of this work overnight which will help to minimise the effect of this programme on travelling public.”

Transport for Bucks’ service director Simon Dando is appealing to motorists to ‘respect’ the workers while they carry out their ‘important’ work.

Mr Dando said: “Unfortunately a minority of motorists are discourteous to our workforce, and even putting them in danger by driving at speed through traffic lights.

“Please give them the respect that they deserve whilst they carry out their important work.”

The road treatment types have been determined by TfB engineers and will vary to meet the needs of each individual site.

Yesterday morning saw the launch of the programme as highways workers got stuck into pre-patching work on the A41 Bicester Road near Waddesdon in preparation for the surface dressing treatment, which is due to take place in July.

A £10million portion of the £25million total funding – which is the largest chunk of cash invested in the county’s road network since the launch of TfB in 2009 – has been allocated for market testing to evaluate other options of carrying out future works.
