The last chance to apply to register to vote is Monday, April 20, with applications for postal votes needing to be in by 5pm on Tuesday, April 21.

Aylesbury Vale District Council is asking residents to apply as soon as possible if they are not registered.

If there are any problems with the application it could delay the process and residents might not be eligible to vote on May 7.

Chris Sheard, electoral services manager, said: “The way people register to vote has changed in the past year and the focus is on each individual, not household, to make sure they are eligible to vote.

“Most people will have been automatically registered, but you need to check this out. We would urge anyone who is not yet registered to vote to apply as soon as possible.”

There is a General Election on May 7 as well as local elections for seats on AVDC and local town and parish councils.

The online registration system is at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

If your name is not on the electoral register you cannot vote in any elections, and your credit rating could be affected.

Voters can find out more about their options in the May 7 elections when the AVDC elections roadshow visits Buckingham’s Market Square on April 14 and Aylesbury’s Market Square on April 15.
