A park bench in memory of the dogs a walker loved so much has been targeted by vandals for the third time.

A park bench in memory of the dogs a walker loved so much has been targeted by vandals for the third time.

Yobs sprayed grey paint all over the bench in Bedgrove Park and prised off a brass plaque dedication on the seat which was only installed in August.

The bench was donated by the dog lover to the Bedgrove Residents Association and cost around £1,200.

Disgusted members of the association have now reported the vandalism to the council.

Jo Cheek, of the group, said: “This is the third time it has happened.

“The resident often goes into the park to sit on the bench and it was him who spotted it, we have been
working to get it sorted out.

“It is quite unusual. We put another bench in the Spinney and that one hasn’t been vandalised, maybe it is someone who likes to destroy new things. It’s very upsetting.

“It is really sad because this resident has paid for it personally.”

And Councillor Mark Winn, who represents Bedgrove said he is also disgusted, and will work with his authority to get a repair sorted as soon as possible.

He said: “The council will have to repair it which costs money.

“I am as disgusted as everyone else, it’s just mindless.

“We will try to get the repairs done as soon as we can, but there are only so many times that the council can step in, I don’t know that they will defintely replace the brass plaque.

“These benches were put into the park for people’s convenience and so that people could enjoy the park.

“I have no idea why anyone would want to do something like this.”
