A man in bloodied clothing who entered Mothercare ‘in a state of distress’ was dramatically wrestled to the ground by police officers.

According to an eyewitness, the man walked into the children’s store in Vale Retail Park, Aylesbury at 11.15am on Sunday.

Dozens of officers in around five police vehicles responded to the emergency call and the man was brought to the ground yards away outside the entrance to Staples.

As the man was held to the ground he could be heard crying out at the officers, who were attempting to calm him. Drops of blood could be seen lining the pavement from Mothercare to Staples.

A police spokesman said: “We were called at 11.15am to reports of a man in state of distress in the Vale Retail Park. Officers attended and the man is receiving care at a mental health facility.”
