Deputy Sister Sandra wins the annual Guttmann Care Award

Sandra Stocks, deputy sister of St Francis Ward, the only paediatric spinal ward in Europe, has been awarded the annual Guttmann Care Award for 2015 - 2016. The awards, now in their second year, are awarded to the member of staff from the National Spinal Injuries Centre (NSIC) with the most patient votes. Patients vote throughout the year for their monthly winner and the annual award recipient.

All members of staff from consultants to cleaners are eligible for the awards.

Sandra Stocks said, “I have had the pleasure of working on St Francis Ward since 2008. We are a close team who strive for excellence and have the privilege of working with children and young people with spinal cord injuries and their families. It is wonderful to receive this accolade and be recognized for a job that I am passionate about.”

Mike Mackenzie, chair of the Guttmann Trust presented Sandra with a glass trophy and tickets for two to have a day including lunch at Waddesdon Manor who have generously donated this special experience.

Mike Mackenzie said, “Congratulations and thanks to all the winners and for all other staff who received patient’s votes. Their hard work and dedication continues to enable spinal cord injured patients to live meaningful and fulfilling lives.”

Claire Guy, operations manager for the NSIC said, “We would like to thank the Poppa Guttmann Trust for these awards and for the opportunity to celebrate our staff who continue the principles of putting the patient at the centre of their care and rehabilitation.”
