Dad takes fight to improve holiday safety to embassy

David Williams, who is known to many in Aylesbury as ska and mod DJ Dejee Tone, has a manifesto of ideas to improve safety measures in resorts – a campaign started after his son Craigy, 12 died while swimming in a hotel pool in August.

These measures include a star ratings system for safety for each hotel, and increasing the amount of lifeguards required by law to be by the poolside.

Mr Williams is currently raising money to stand before a judge in Spain in an effort to keep the investigation into what went wrong ongoing, and has set up a crowdfunding campaign online.

But he says the embassy protest was a way to keep pressure on, and that he would welcome a positive meeting with Spanish diplomats to discuss his improvement ideas.

He said: “I need to do something positive, and if my campaign can make changes that will impact on the lives of others then it is the right thing to do.

“I have so many ideas which resorts could use to make sure that something like this never happens again, and that another family is not put through this devastation.”

Craigy was treated in hospital for four days before passing away following the incident, and in that time another young British holiday maker also passed away after getting into difficulties in a hotel pool.

David said: “So many people have come up to me and taken my leaflets and it’s made them think, this is not an attack on the Spanish tourism industry, it’s a way to improve it.”
