Thames Valley Police said: "As we continue to experience the cold weather we would like to take this opportunity to remind residents to keep your property safe and secure at all times.

"Please take a moment to have a look at our top tips for keeping your property secure.

"Always close and lock your windows and doors when leaving your property-even a small window could entice a burglar.

"Do not leave valubles on display through windows.

"Keep car and house keys out of sight and some distance from a window or door.

"Ensure that any side entrance is secure, locked and not easy to climb over, even when you are home.

"Consider installing a visible security light or alarm to deter criminals.

"If you are going away make sure you have a timer switch so that a light comes on and it looks like someone is at home.

"Do not advertise that you are going away on holiday especially on social media.

"Use pea shingle on driveways and under windows as it crunches when stepped on.

"We would also encourage you to register your high end valubles such as bikes, mobile phones,laptops,etc. on the online property dtabase IMMOBILISE its free to do so.
