Aylesbury’s police commander is leaving his post after just seven months in the job.

Local Policing Authority commander Gez Chiariello found out three weeks ago that he is being reassigned to the same role in Milton Keynes.

He will be succeeded by Olly Wright, who took on the Aylesbury position temporarily before Mr Chiariello started in January this year.

Mr Chiariello said: “It’s just the way things happen sometimes, it came out of the blue for me too.

“But there is nothing untoward about it, I’m just moving elsewhere and it’s about numbers across the force.”

He added: “I’m just a number within the organisation and there’s only a certain number of people within my rank. It is slightly unusual in the sense that I have only been in Aylesbury for seven months, but it’s not unusual to move posts.”
