The incident occurred last night at about 5pm, where an armed burglar came into the store.

Luckily for staff at the shop, nobody was hurt.

One of the store's managers, posting to a residents local page, said:

" Tonight shortly after 5pm we had an armed robbery at the Co-op so we will not be reopening until tomorrow.

"My team are safe and no one was hurt.

"There was a few customers in the store at the time of the incident, I know the police have managed to get in touch with some of you, but if you haven’t and you read this, if you wouldn’t mind getting in touch with the police they are interested to take your details.

"Thank you to everyone who turned up to help."

A Co-op spokesperson, said: “We can confirm that a robbery took place at our Steeple Claydon store on West Street at around 17:00 on Monday evening. Fortunately nobody was injured and the store has reopened to serve the local community. CCTV has been shared with the Police, who are investigating, and we would ask anyone with information about the incident to come forward.”
