County Hall boss named on council pay richlist

The figures released by the Taxpayers Alliance this morning (Tuesday) show that during 2012/13 Mr Williams salary was £207,750, the seventh highest among council employees across the UK, and more than Prime Minister David Cameron earns.

But Mr Williams’ total renumeration is £257,766, including £47,196 in employer pension contributions.

Eight County Hall executives earn more than £100,000.

This is up two from previous years, but council said the figure was lower than many other upper tier local authorities.

A council spokesman added: “The county council now operates a performance-related pay scheme for all staff, so that pay is tied to individual productivity and performance and not just length of service.

“Chris Williams has been chief executive with Bucks County Council for fourteen years, and has a great track record in leading a lean and efficient authority which has made efficiency savings of £85 million for taxpayers over the last four years.

“His salary reflects the responsibility his role entails: he and his senior team are responsible for managing a budget bigger than many FTSE 100 companies, whose chief executives earn significantly more than Mr Williams.”

Mr Williams’ total remuneration is actually down from 2011/12 by just under £2,000.

Aylesbury Vale District Council had two employees earning more than £100,000 in 2012/13, the same number as during 2011/12.

It means that a total of ten staff on the main councils serving Aylesbury Vale earn six-figure salaries.
