Grand plans are afoot which would transform the Vale’s leisure offer.

Plans for a huge ‘aquatic sports leisure park’ have been presented to council chiefs this week, in the hope that they will support the idea.

The park, which would be on land off the A418, would boast swimming pools and rides, a new home for Aylesbury United Football Club, a golf course, a medical centre and other facilities.

Taking up the 250 acres of land between Bierton and Watermead, the scheme is being billed as an alternative to housing development.

The scheme is being led by councillor Phil Gomm, who for many years has run an entertainment management company in the county.

A group which wants to build a giant leisure park between Bierton and Watermead says that the scheme would provide an essential resource.

TSG Property Consultants gave their proposal to council highways teams, leaders and relevant cabinet members, on Monday.

In a document outlining the plans, the team admits that the scheme is a massive undertaking.

The report says: “This may at first glance appear adventurous, nevertheless, it is very important us as a team to let you know that every development decision is focused upon developing the community and not just generating profit.”

The scheme, if approved, is expected to generate at least two million visitors every year, and create 10.310 full time jobs.

The aquatic sports and leisure park would include indoor and outdoor facilities, therapy, sport and recreational activities focussed around water.

A 250-bed hotel and a 125-bed hotel are also envisaged for the site.

Retail facilities would also be on site including restaurants, cafes and shops.

TSG says that the facilities would be delivered in stages over a ten-year period.

As well as this there would be a conference and exhibition centre, a sports stadium, an 18 hole golf course, a business centre, a medical centre, retail park and associated parking.

The scheme is being presented as an alternative to plans for 200 homes by developers Hallam Land.

Councillor Phil Gomm, who has developed the proposal said: “There is a big highways issue which has arisen with the crematorium scheme. But with this project that would be resolved.

“It is very exciting for this area, and the wider community.”
