Men’s captain Mr Cowling said: “Grant Thornton have been appointed to seek a buyer for the club and we have had numerous enquiries from our members, who are supportive of a members buy-out.

“The timescales are very tight, but we have some real momentum behind us and we are determined to put a compelling case together.”

Ladies captain Anne Bridges, said: “The support from our membership base has been overwhelming and there is a real determination to get the club open again.

“We believe we can be a real force for good, with members having a say in how the club is to be run and controlled.

“Our health and fitness members seem just as keen as our golfers, and we really want to ensure that the club is in safe hands in the future.”
