Conservative Anthony Stansfeld re-elected Thames Valley police commissioner

The count went to a second round as no candidate received more than 50 per cent of the first preference vote.

After second preferences had been counted, Mr Stansfeld won with 54 per cent of the final votes.

Labour’s Laetisia Carter was in second place with 46 per cent.

Around 430,000 votes were cast in the election yesterday.

The turnout across the Thames Valley was 25.6 per cent.

David Buckle, police area returning officer for the Thames Valley, said: “The turnout was much higher than 2012 when we first ran these elections, where it was just over 13 per cent – so we’re grateful to those who took the time to vote.”

RESULT BREAKDOWN:

First preference votes

Anthony Stansfeld (Con): 164,554 – 39.93%

Laetisia Carter(Lab): 138,084 – 33.5%

John Howson (Lib Dem): 59,575 – 14.45%

Lea Trainer (UKIP): 49,942 – 12.12%

Anthony Stansfeld and Laetisia Carter went on to the second round of counting, and John Howson and Lea Trainer were eliminated.

Anthony Stansfield: 37,842 – 52.21%

Laetisia Carter: 34,633 – 47.79%
