But it also means that it’s difficult to stop, to put things aways at the end of the day, and enjoy some chill out time.

And I don’t think that I am alone. Pokemon Go has swept the nation, it’s swept the world, and also quite terrifyingly an American bloke recently married his smart phone in a Las Vegas ceremony. I’m honestly not that bad, I’m not sure anyone else is really...

But I do admit that I have the odd cheeky check of Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, my texts, Whatsapp and worryingly my work emails from the sofa, the kitchen, even the bath every single day!

My husband this week said that he was popping to the shops, and came back proud that he had caught three Pokemon. He’s not the only one and he’s in his 30s.

Last week I read that many people are trying and failing to do mobile phone detox-months which, as someone who remembers the days before the internet, is a concept I find scary! I’m sure none of us would like to think that we are true addicts, but what would be the impact of really giving up that link with the wider world for a week or two.

One respondent on a radio phone in this week admitted that he had tried it, and someone had legitimately reported him as a missing person!

A good chunk of my childhood and teenage years was spent in the days before the internet was widely available, and I remember railing against getting my first mobile phone, convinced I’d never need one.

But now I honestly couldn’t imagine life without it, and I’m sure many readers of my generation and older will share in my shock at how quickly this reliance on personal technology has taken over.

Technology can be useful, and obviously in this job it is super handy to have an all-singing all-dancing ‘reporting device’ with you wherever you go.

The news is faster than ever, and comes at you from all angles. It is harder for the powers that be to hide the things they want to hide. Yet there is a balance that we all need to get right. Perhaps we are not quite there just yet, or perhaps it’s going to get crazier still!
