Kirsten Ekins, who works at The Flower Room, won the bronze at the Young florist of the Year competition, held at the show.

Kirsten, aged 25, and her fellow competitors had to create a headdress with a Brazilian carnival theme. Kirstens’s design represented the carnival atmosphere by using flowers on a hand wired base.

She said: “I’m absolutely thrilled. I was aiming high and so delighted to get my bronze medal. This is my first time at Chelsea, it was an amazing experience and such a great atmosphere. To be awarded a bronze medal was the icing on the cake for me.”

The design took over a week to create and the judges praised the high standard, particularly in design and technique.

Kirsten, who thrives on competitions, added: “I never thought that within 6 years of being a florist I would be going to Chelsea, let alone becoming a medal winner.

“It’s down to the support of my family, friends and colleagues that I’ve been able to achieve this and their constant encouragement.”
