Chance to dance at flame-lighting event

The Bucks Legacy Board are after a group of about 100 people to participate in a dance performance at the event, which is being shown live on Channel 4.

No experience is necessary because participants will be taught by experts during rehearsals ahead of the ceremony at Stoke Mandeville Stadium in September.

The flame-lighting ceremony is being held in Stoke Mandeville as it is the birthplace of the Paralympic Games.

It forms part of the build-up to this year’s Paralympic Games in Rio, Brazil in September.

Martin McElhatton, chief executive of WheelPower and a member of the Bucks Legacy Board, said: “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of an incredible event, which will be broadcast live on Channel 4.

“It will also be seen around the world when a recording is shown as part of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games opening ceremony.

“It’s a chance to perform with some of the best disabled and non-disabled dancers working in the performing arts industry.”

The event will be directed by Bradley Hemmings, a co-director of the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympics.

The deadline for registering is July 8.

There are no auditions but performers must be over 16 years of age and will need to be available for an orientation session on Sunday July 17.

Rehearsals take place in August ahead of the performance itself at the ceremony at Stoke Mandeville Stadium on September 2.
