Celebration of British comedy as slapstick farce One Man, Two Guvnors comes to The Court Theatre in Tring

One Man, Two Guvnors has regularly been called the funniest show on the planet, and it certainly had me doubled over with laughter when I was fortunate to see it with James Corden in the lead role.

Now, this internationally acclaimed smash hit glorious celebration of British comedy arrives at The Court Theatre in Tring next week courtesy of the Frayed Knot Theatre Company ,with its unique, laugh out loud mix of satire, music, slapstick and glittering one liners.

Set against the colourful backdrop of 1960s Brighton, One Man, Two Guvnors centres around the mishaps of Francis Henshall (the part Corden played in the West End).

Francis becomes minder to Roscoe Crabbe, a psychopathic gangster who looks a bit like Ringo Starr.

But Roscoe is really Rachel, posing as her dead twin brother - who’s been killed by her boyfriend Stanley Stubbers.

Francis inadvertently ends up being employed by both Rachel and Stanley, but to prevent discovery, he must keep his two guvnors apart! Simple!

Involving audience participation, musical interludes and general mayhem, this unique farce was inspired by the commedia dell’arte play, The Servant of Two Masters by Carlo Goldoni.

A huge success for the National Theatre and universally lauded by the critics, it is a play that has audiences literally rolling in the aisles with laughter.

Experienced local actor/director Dan Clucas takes on the role of Francis in The Court Theatre production at 8pm from Wednesday April 20 through to Saturday April 23, with a talented supporting cast of familiar local faces and rising stars.

Frayed Knot is well known for bringing theatre classics to The Court Theatre with recent sellout productions including Jerusalem, Journey’s End and The Ladykillers.

No longer available to West End audiences, this is a rare opportunity to experience One Man, Two Guvnors for those who missed it first time around. And for those who have already seen it, here is a chance to relive the comedy all over again.

Tickets cost from £8 to £12 and are available online at www.courttheatre.co.uk or from Beechwood Fine Food in Tring or call 01442 828812. There is an additional matinee performance at 2.30pm on Saturday.
