Try, try, try again – that’s what Carlos Barradas did and now he is a champion bodybuilder.
Factory worker Carlos, 45, started working out at Body Flex Gym in Aylesbury 20 years ago.
In 2002 he started competing, regularly placing in the top five or six but never
winning a title.
But after 13 years, his hardwork has paid off. Carlos won the national title and will compete in the World Bodybuilding Championships in Barcelona this week in the natural category.
The great result is partly due to a friendship with gym boss Tony Montalbano, a former British Champion
himself who encouraged
Carlos to start competing.
Tony, who is also 45, vowed that if Carlos did not win at the nationals he would never go again, and said that if he did he himself would start competing alongside his friend.
Carlos said: “I’m thrilled. Leading up to a competition is quite demanding on your body, and I was competing against lads who were in their twenties.
“I want to send out the message that you can achieve a healthier body for longer drug-free.
“Tony inspired me, and now we inspire each other.”
