Call for road safety action after dad dies at danger junction in Thornborough
A petition to add additional safety measures to the A421 junction in Thornborough has gained 1452 signatures after a dad was killed as he drove to work.
The petition appeals to the council to put a roundabout on the junction, as safety concerns mount for drivers who use the road following the death of the man in his forties.
The man, named locally as Anthony Upton from Adstock, died while travelling to his workplace in Milton Keynes last week.
Following the tragedy a hastily organised petition gathered more than 800 signatures in six hours, the the figure continuing to rise ever since.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision that involved a heavy goods vehicle and a Volkswagen Golf on November 4.
Mark Cole transport portfolio holder for Aylesbury Vale District Council, said: “Thornborough has been pushing for years to get a roundabout in place of the crossroads, but Transport for Buckinghamshire (subsidiary of Bucks County Council) say it’s not a black spot, despite one previous fatality and a number of serious injury accidents over the past decade. The sooner the east-west expressway comes the better.”
Investigating officer PC Christopher Ruvolo-Jones of roads policing unit based at Milton Keynes Police Station said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this difficult time. We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact the police.
“If you witnessed the collision or have any information please contact police via the Thames Valley non emergency number 101 quoting reference number 256 or 4/11.”
Councillor Robin Stuchbury, who represents the area where the accident occured, added: “This junction’s history is terrible, it’s been an ever present danger to Buckinghamshire County Council.
“Let’s not wait for the next tragedy, let’s take action now to see no more families have to go through the loss of a family member.”
