Call for double yellow lines at '˜nightmare' Buckingham junction

There are calls for double yellow lines or police enforcement at a '˜nightmare' junction because parked cars are hiding oncoming traffic.

Cars have been parking close to the Western Avenue / Overn Crescent junction in Buckingham.

And Justin Walden, 41, who lives with wife Michelle just 100 yards away, thinks drivers are breaking the Highway Code.

Mr Walden, who regularly uses the junction as he travels to and from Currys, where he works, said: “It’s a nightmare.

“I’ve had a few near-misses and you literally have to guess. At night, if someone doesn’t have lights on, you’ve had it. Do these people parking there actually have a brain, it’s like, hello? You have to edge yourself out and it’s not very good at all.”

Under rule 243 of the Highway Code, vehicles cannot stop or park – opposite or within 10 metres – of a junction, except in an authorised parking space.

Mr Walden has reported the offences to the police and in a letter to Bucks County Council, he said the junction needs looking at with the ‘utmost urgency before someone is seriously injured or killed’.

A Bucks County Council spokesman said: “As there are no yellow lines or pay-and-display bays, the county council has nothing to enforce, so the power isn’t in our hands. It would be a local police matter.”
