Burglars brandishing wooden stakes threatened terrified householders who barricaded themselves inside a room.

The thieves forced their way into the home in Springfield Close, Aylesbury, at around 4.30am today (Friday).

Thames Valley Police said they were carrying wooden stakes and threatened the occupants.

The victims, a man and a woman aged in their twenties, shut themselves in another room for safety.

They then managed to escape while the offenders were still there.

Cash, a Samsung tablet and a white Apple iPhone were stolen.

Speaking on Friday, investigating officer, Det Sgt Nick Mullen from Local CID at Aylesbury police station, said: “We are working to establish the circumstances of this incident.

“There is a scene watch in place at the property today and officers are in the area making enquiries.

“Fortunately the victims were not injured, but this was a frightening incident for them.
