Buckinghamshire joined more than 1,000 communities around the country to raise the flag for Commonwealth Day today (Monday March 13).2017 marks 40 years since Commonwealth Day became a global celebration marked on the same day every year - the second Monday in March.Chairman Val Letheren raised the flag in front of Old County Hall, in Aylesbury Market Square, at 10am, celebrating a day marked by 52 countries worldwide.

The Chairman was joined by cabinet members, senior managers and members of the Buckinghamshire Army Cadet Force. Bugler Max Farmer played a fanfare as the flag was raised.

Val said: “Commonwealth Day gives us all the opportunity to celebrate the values of co-operation, understanding and respect between our nations.”
