Rebecca was diagnosed with cancer of the thyroid in November 2013. Since then she has undergone surgery, radioactive iodine therapy.

She said: “When you have a challenge like this you can’t think negatively about it, you’ve got to keep moving forward and keep positive.

“I was so lucky to have my wish granted, and to go on the trip.

“It did so much to take my mind off the journey I am on. New York was absolutely amazing, it was so much more than I expected.”

Her mum, Sharon, said: “Rebecca is an inspiration. It has been a gruelling few years for her, yet she remains
positive and always puts others before herself.”

As well as a tacking he health challenges head on, Rebecca organised her Aylesbury Vale Academy school prom and completed her GCSEs.

She is now in remission, and taking a Level Three beauty therapy course at Aylesbury College.

Rebecca, her mum Sharon, dad David, sister Donna and brother-in-law Lee all took the trip of a lifetime, staying in Times Square.

On arrival Rebecca and her family then headed straight out for a spot of sight-seeing and shopping.

Sharon said, “It was such a joy to see Rebecca completely forget about her illness for that time and just enjoy herself.”
