Be Fearless: youngsters get their own Crimestoppers channel

Youngsters across the country are being given the power to pass on information about crime in the palm of their hand with the launch of a new mobile website.

The Fearless website of the youth service for independent charity Crimestoppers, can be accessed via mobile phones and gives those who have details about gun and knife crime an opportunity to give information without anyone finding out who they are.

The site allows users to access an anonymous secure online form which has been optimised for mobile devices.

Fearless is also launching an innovative Facebook App ‘R U Fearless’ to support the initiative, allowing young people to experience a chilling cyber-reality where they lose their virtual life online.

Phil Gomm of Crimestoppers, said: “We are determined to ensure that all young people understand how the charity can help them to stay safe, recently launching our Buddies initiative to local schools.

“ Young people are significant users of mobile phones and the new mobile website will make it easier for them to pass on vital information about crime.

“We want to offer youngsters a lifeline through Fearless and help them feel safer in their own communities.”

Projects coordinator Julia Hughes added: “We will never reveal the identity of anyone who passes on information to us. Calls and IP addresses are not recorded and you will never be asked to give a statement or go to court”.

Fearless is the youth brand that introduces young people to the services of Crimestoppers - the independent charity which helps the police to solve crimes, making communities safer.

It does this by operating the 24/7 telephone number 0800 555 111 which people can ring to pass on information about crimes anonymously.

They can also use the ‘giving information’ form via our website www.crimestoppers-uk.org or www.fearless.org

Around 23 people are arrested and charged every day as a result of information given to Crimestoppers.
