Miss Sheila Corcoran, who worked at Page’s bakery as a shop assistant and was aged just 16, won the contest and became ‘Miss Coronation’.

The sash was presented to her by the Mayor of Aylesbury, Councillor A. J. Sage.

After being crowned she was able to perform various duties in the town.

She was also invited to choose from a selection of gifts donated by local tradespeople.

This was one of many events happening in the town at the time as Aylesbury was gripped with Coronation fever. Many businesses decorated their frontages and had special promotions running.

As a footnote it’s good to see the Odeon looking as it would have done back in the day. Now it is in a sorry state and awaiting demolition.
