Aylesbury Under 9's football team 'keeping it up' for the NHS

Aylesbury Utd Under 9's have been busy while in lockdown taking part in on-line challenges, quizzes as well as keeping up with training sessions via Zoom each week.

As part of the football family, they wanted to make a difference by turning team 'challenges' into ways to raise money for the NHS.

The team set up a go-fund me page and set an initial target of £500.

This week the team and their coaching staff have set up a sponsored head shave to raise vital funds for frontline NHS staff.

They have smashed their initial fundraising target of £500, and currently sit on £2,100 raised.

They are currently discussing which part of the NHS they would like to donate to, but say they would like the money to be spent locally.

Danielle Moss, from Aylesbury U9's said: "The NHS are working so hard to save life's and this is a way we can give something back to them for the hard work and dedication they give each and every day they go into work.

"They are putting their own life's at risk going into work as well as having to live apart from their loved ones.

"We have NHS staff and key workers in our football family who are out working, leaving their families and loved ones so it makes us want to help even more.

The team have been staying connected through Zoom video calling app, and have been doing a variety of things to keep busy.

Danielle continued: "My Daughter Poppy Moss has been keeping the lads in shape (U9s) keeping fit with zoom training sessions twice a week - football kickups, training, to keep everyone fit. They love it. Its a great team to be a part of and it's wonderful they are staying strong and together through this difficult period.

"We will also be doing quiz's for the family's, sponsored head shaving and other things over the coming weeks trying to raise as much money as we can for our wonderful NHS.

Later this week, they are planning a 'Mum's challenge' where player's mums will have to put four goals or more past their children otherwise they will get pied!

Danielle said she was 'amazed' by everybody's generosity.

She said: "We initially set up a target of £500 but we've raced past £2,000 - I hope we can get somewhere near £5,000 to make a real difference locally.

"If you can spare any money, please donate to a great cause!"

Later this week they will be doing a raffle/auction of a signed Dele Ali photo - and tomorrow night the parents will be taking part in Bingo.

"It's just little things like this that keep us all going. It's been great to see the strength of everybody involved."
