Rob’s question follows the recent announcement from Trade Secretary, Liz Truss, establishing a new Trade and Agricultural Commission.

The Commission will represent farmers, retailers and consumers in the UK, advising Government on trade policies to adopt to secure opportunities for UK farmers.

Speaking at Prime Minister’s Questions, Rob said: “My constituency is home to many farms producing excellent British food.

“Can my Right Honourable Friend confirm to me that the new trade deals our government is working on will safeguard our high food standards and provide fantastic new opportunities

to the hardworking farmers in my part of Buckinghamshire?”

The Prime Minister was clear in his commitment to both food standards and farmers, saying:

“Yes indeed, Mr Speaker. I can give him that assurance.

“We will not only protect high food standards in this country, safeguard animal welfare, but open up new opportunities for farmers in Buckinghamshire and across the UK.”
