After eight years of misdiagnosis Amy plans charity challenge to help others

Amy Powell suffers with endometriosis however she was only diagnosed with the condition in 2013.

The 24-year-old, a former pupil at Quarrendon School in Aylesbury is now preparing to do a 10,000 foot tandem skydive next year for the charity Endometriosis UK.

After being diagnosed with the condition after eight years, Miss Powell encountered more problems after her operation.

She said: “The problem then got a lot worse after having my first operation in 2013.

“I went in to have a larporscopy on my stomach which is a day in, day out operation.

“After my operation the doctors wanted to send me home, but I knew something wasn’t right.

“A couple of the nurses believed me and persuaded the doctors to let me stay.

“After seven-and-a-half hours I collapsed.

“They rushed me in for an emergency operation, and I woke the next morning.

“I found out the doctors had left some stitches undone inside me, which caused me to have internal bleeding for that length of time.

“The doctors told me I might not be here now if they hadn’t done that emergency operation on time.

“From the operation going wrong I was in more pain due to more scar tissue and not being able to move, pick up a cup, or turn my body around for the next three to four months.”

Miss Powell, who now lives in Milton Keynes, then experienced further problems after she returned to work and was eventually sent to a private clinic to have the larporscopy.

When she got the results, she learned both of her tubes had to be closed because of the seriousness of her condition.

Miss Powell received a further blow earlier this month when she found out she was covered in endometriosis again.

She is currently waiting for the date of her next operation.

Miss Powell is aiming to raise £1,00 from the skydive which is due to take place early next year.
