A-level results: Aylesbury Grammar and High Schools

At Aylesbury Grammar School students celebrated an outstanding set of A-level exam results with 74% of entries being graded B or better, and 44% of the entries achieving an A* or A grade.

13% of entries were graded A* with an overall pass rate of 99.8% while 38 students (20.2% of the year group) achieved A* or A grades in all their subjects with 57 achieving at least three A grades.

Exceptional performances came from Simon Chappell, James Cook and Oscar Thompson who were rewarded with four A* grades each.

A further seven students achieved at least three A* grades each.

Headmaster Mark Sturgeon said: “These results show that all the effort the students put in across their A Level studies has been richly rewarded.

“At a time of great change to national examinations, it is with huge credit that the students remain resilient and achieve at the highest level.

“Well done to all the staff who have supported the students across the two years.

“The whole school wishes the boys great success in the next stage of their educational career.”

Meanwhile, the majority of High School students will be heading off next month to university while around 10% of the students are deferring their entry until 2017 to allow them to take a gap year.

The school expects nine students to take up places at Oxford and Cambridge while seven students will be studying medicine, dentistry or veterinary medicine.

Almost a quarter of the students achieved 3 A grades at A Level or better and special congratulations go to Mairead Durrant, Jessica Fleming, Beatrice Law, Sarah Mann, Jessica Payne and Soonyiu Yau who all achieved at least 3 A* grades.

Headteacher Alan Rosen said: “These results are a real tribute to the students’ dedication and talent and we must not forget all the teachers and support staff who have inspired and encouraged them throughout both their primary and secondary education.

“It is fascinating to see the impressive range of courses that our students are going to study, starting with Accounting, Aerospace Engineering, Animal Therapy and Archaeology, going all the way to Zoology.

“This set of students have not only achieved creditable exam results but have been really active during their time at Aylesbury High School, supporting charities and doing community service, going on trips and expeditions, and enjoying themselves as well.

“We wish them the very best for the future.”
