Thames Valley Police made the arrests on suspicion of drink-driving between December 1 and 28, with 93 arrests in Bucks.

The ‘Is it worth the risk?’ campaign is aimed at targeting drink and drug drivers over the festive period.

It is estimated that more than 8800 people have so far been breath tested.

In total, 130 of the 241 arrested have been charged, 71 have been released on bail pending further enquiries and 40 people have been released with no further action.

Of those arrested, 193 were men (percentage the same as last year) and 48 were female (a twelve per cent increase) on last year’s figures for the same time period.

Of the arrests, 93 have been made in Buckinghamshire, 94 in Berkshire and 54 in Oxfordshire.

The oldest person arrested was a 79-year-old man in Bicester on December 14 and the youngest were three different 19-year-old men arrested in Slough on December 3 and Aylesbury on December 6 for drug-driving and a man arrested for drink-driving in South Oxfordshire on December 14.

The campaign runs until January 1.
