NOSTALGIA: Why did the elephant come to Market Square?
Shoppers in Aylesbury couldn't believe their eyes in November 1976 when a baby elephant was brought in to the Market Square.
The move was canny marketing for the publicity of a play named A Thousand Clowns which was being staged at the Civic Centre later that week.
