It includes a number of schemes to be implemented up to 2033. In the near-future more cycle routes will be created.
Medium-term plans include expanding the town centre bus station and increasing the frequency of buses to new housing developments and the proposed Winslow railway station which will link to Aylesbury and Milton Keynes.
Capacity on the A421/A413 will be increased in the medium-term to potentially ease congestion and discourage town centre through-traffic, while in the longer-term a Western Link Road is planned between the A422 and A421 with the aim of reducing traffic in the town. A public consultation was held on the draft strategy from November to January, when the majority of respondents said they agreed with the plans.Cabinet Member for Transportation, Mark Shaw, said: “This strategy will be used in the negotiations with developers who want to build in Buckingham, to ensure that we get the right funding for the right schemes and ensure that growth doesn’t lead to gridlock. "It’s also crucial that we improve sustainable travel choices such as buses and bicycles, to give people a real alternative to using their cars which add to the congestion.”Computer based transport modelling was used to indicate the impacts of the future growth on the highway network in Buckingham until 2033, and also enabled some initial testing of the highway improvements identified in this strategy.
