AVDC warn of 'council tax refund' scam targeting Aylesbury residents

Several people have reported the scam to Aylesbury Vale District Council (AVDC) and have issued advice on how to avoid being scammed.

The council said scammers were getting in touch by text message, with links where people are invited to claim back overpaid council tax.

However the council have said, these are a scam and must be avoided.

A statement from the council said:

"We've received a few calls this week where customers have received an SMS advising that they are being contacted by their local council in regard to a council tax refund, and to click on the link provided.

"These are scam messages - please do not respond to them."
