Coronavirus update: UK death toll increases by highest amount for fourth consecutive day

The number of people who have died from coronavirus in the UK has once again exceeded the previous highest daily increase, with 684 more people sadly succumbing to the illness in the past 24 hours.

The increase takes the the total of people who have died from the disease in the UK to 3,605 - all in the past 29 days. 38,168 people have tested positive across the country.

In a day of grim milestones, a million positive tests globally was surpassed overnight. 1,092,993 are now known to have contracted the disease.

The worldwide death toll also reached the 50,000 mark yesterday, with 58,727 having now died from coronavirus.

In Buckinghamshire, the current number of positive tests is 222. The number does not include data from Milton Keynes.

The latest NHS advice to help stop the spread of coronavirus is that you should only leave the house for one of the four following reasons:

- Shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible

- One form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle – alone or with members of your household

- Any medical need, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person

- Travelling to and from work, but only where this absolutely cannot be done from home

- Ensure you are two metres apart from anyone outside of your household

You should also:

- Wash your hands with soap and water often – for at least 20 seconds

- Wash your hands as soon as you get home

- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze

- Put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands

- Not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean
