Coronavirus update: One new death reported in a care home in Bucks

The number of people who have died from coronavirus in Buckinghamshire has risen by one to 243 after a death was reported in a care home on 12 June, new data reveals.

Data shows that 123 people are reported to have died in hospitals in Buckinghamshire with coronavirus between 1 March – 15 June, and 120 people have died in the region's care homes with the virus between 10 April – 12 June. Data for Buckinghamshire does not include figures for Milton Keynes.

The first death from coronavirus in Buckinghamshire was 105 days ago, on 3 March 2020. It was among the first deaths recorded in a hospital anywhere in the UK, with Nottingham and Essex also reporting deaths on the same day – the day Prime Minister Boris Johnson boasted about shaking hands with coronavirus patients.

Across the UK, the death toll is now 41,969 after a further 233 people were reported to have died in hospitals, care homes and in the community in the past 24 hours.

The first death in the UK occurred in a care home 106 days ago, on 2 March 2020.

Globally the disease has now sadly claimed the lives of 440,411 people.

The first known death from the disease anywhere in the world was 157 days ago, on Saturday 11 January 2020. The victim was a 61-year-old man who lived in Wuhan, China.
