Coronavirus latest: Number of cases rises sharply across Bucks and the UK

The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Buckinghamshire has risen to 140 over the weekend, up from 106 on Friday evening.

Across the country the death toll also rose sharply, by an average of over 200 each day, taking the total 1,408.

Approximately 22,141 have now tested positive for coronavirus in the UK, though as only seriously ill patients and NHS workers are currently being tested, the true number is expected to be far higher.

Globally it is known that at least 787,411 have contracted coronavirus, of which 37,846 have sadly died.

Today it was revealed that Dominic Cummings, Chief Adviser to the Prime Minister, is self-isolating after displaying symptoms of the virus.

On Friday it was announced that Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who less than four weeks ago joked about shaking hands with coronavirus patients, had tested positive, as had Health Secretary Matt Hancock.

Chief Medical officer, Professor Chris Whitty, and Foreign Office Minister Nigel Adams have also confirmed they are self-isolating.

In some better news, Prince Charles has come out of self-isolation today after testing positive on Monday 23 March, and is said to be in good health.

The Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust have provided the following advice to fight coronavirus:

- Wash your hands

- Stay at home

If you have symptoms of coronavirus:

- Do not come into hospital or any healthcare facility

- Go to NHS Online to check your symptoms and follow the specialist medical advice

- Only call NHS 111 if you can’t get online or your symptoms worsen

- Everyone in your household must stay at home for 14 days and keep away from others

- Protect older people and those with existing health conditions by avoiding contact
