In what was yet another unprecedented moment in these unprecedented times, at 8pm yesterday millions around the country took part in a simultaneous emotional outpouring of gratitude for the care workers looking after the sick at great personal risk during the coronavirus pandemic.

The residents of Aylesbury clearly did not let us down.

Gloria Canning, who lives in one of the Grand Central flats described the scenes as everyone came onto their balconies to make some noise.

She said: “It felt like we had all come together as one, I am unable to express the emotion.

“Everyone opened up their windows and everyone felt the love.”

Clapping could be heard in other parts of town too, including in Meadowcroft, Quarrendon, Bedgrove and Watermead.

One resident of the Quarrendon estate said: “At first we weren’t sure if anyone else would join in, but they really did. Everyone is in the same boat with this, and it really was an emotional moment.”
