GCSEs: Tring School celebrates excellent results

Tring School is delighted to announce an excellent set of GCSE results with outstanding performances in English and Maths plus many other subjects.

This follows the widely reported confusion about how the grades for 2020 are to be awarded.

Students were unable to take their exams this year because of the Covid-19 pandemic with teachers instead predicting how they would have performed.

Tring School supports the decision to use the Teacher Assessed Grades as they carried out an intensely rigorous and robust process earlier in the year to ensure that every student’s individual grades were fair, objective and accurate.

More than 80 per cent of students achieved at least a standard pass (grade 4+, equivalent to grade C or above) and 59 per cent achieved a strong pass (grade 5+, equivalent to a C+ or B grade) in both English and Maths.

Tring School's highest performing student this year was Fergus Parkinson with ten 9s and one 8.

Amongst the many other outstanding GCSE students were:

- Rebecca Bojarski with seven 9s and four 8s

- Fiona Connor with five 9s, three 8s, two 7s and one 6

- Sophie Dimes with five 9s, four 8s and one 7

- Henry Chappell with five 9s, two 8s and three 6s

- George Breckenridge with four 9s, five 8s and one 7

- Charlotte Hinde with four 9s, three 8s, two 7s and two 6s

- Oscar Evans with four 9s, three 8s, one 7 and three 6s

- Flora Yarrow with four 9s, two 8s, three 7s and one 6

- Emily Hinde with three 9s, four 8s and three 7s.

Like all schools, they are currently unable to publish the BTEC results.

Head of School Sally Ambrose said: "After what has been an incredibly difficult and challenging year for everyone, we are thrilled for our GCSE students who have achieved an excellent set of results.

"They had to suffer the adversity and disappointment of preparing rigorously to sit their exams and then to be denied the opportunity to show just how good they are.

“These results will support them with their next challenge, whether that is to join our outstanding Sixth Form, start an apprenticeship scheme, enter the workplace or continue their education elsewhere.

"Everyone associated with Tring School can be immensely proud of these results and I’d like to express our appreciation to the students, staff, parents, governors and trustees."

Most of Tring School's GCSE students will move on to the school's Sixth Form which last week once again reported excellent A Level results.
