Bucks children receive 25,000 free books to help them continue learning at home this summer

Buckinghamshire Council secured the allocation of books from a scheme run and funded by The Arts Council, The Reading Agency and Artswork.

The Council’s Early Years team packed and hand delivered the books to 189 schools last week for onward distribution to vulnerable children and families in time for the end of term.

Anita Cranmer, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said: “We were pleased to secure the book allocation from The Arts Council and The Reading Agency which will benefit thousands of local children. Fantastic work too by our Early Years staff to organise and deliver all the books right across the county!

“Reading is such an important skill for children; it benefits social development, wellbeing and mental health, language and literacy development – and is really enjoyable too. These books will support those families who may not have ready access to books.”
