Aylesbury language school for children moves online during coronavirus lockdown

Ornella Iapino is the franchisee of Kidslingo Aylesbury that aims to inspire young children to love languages. Through interactive learning, including songs, games, and story-telling, children up to the age of 11 can learn French and Spanish and build their confidence and communication skills.

Ornella said: “Overnight we changed the model from face-to-face classes to doing everything online via the interactive web platform Zoom.

“The impact coronavirus is having on children and young families is unprecedented. But I knew that keeping the classes open would be one of the ways in which to offer some stability and normality in this very confusing time.

“Where we can, we have tried to keep children in their friendship groups so they can continue to virtually see their best friends, which we know is really, really important.”

The interactive and live video classes have been rolled out nationwide and are available via computer, phone or tablet for existing and new customers. As well as the live classes, there will be additional resources to help parents. These include educational packs and music, emailed out weekly.

Lauren Thatcher, whose seven-year-old daughter used to attend a Kidslingo after school club and is now continuing online, said: “My daughter absolutely loves her Spanish lessons. I cannot believe how much she has picked up in such a short amount of time. Ornella is brilliant with the kids and in such horrible times for the kids to still have their Spanish lessons over zoom is incredible, thank you so much.”

The pressure on parents is at an all-time high and many are feeling overwhelmed with the thought of homeschooling on top of balancing their own work along with the usual chores of running a household.

And for children that have become proficient in a language, it would be a shame for it all to go to waste if classes were to discontinue.

Ornella added: “As things progress, we will continue to build on what we are offering, including content that all children can access via our social media channels.
