£14.7m allocated for Southern Relief Road in 2,300 home expansion near Princes Risborough

Buckinghamshire Council has earmarked a £14.7 million budget for the construction of the first phase of a relief road as part of an expansion of Princes Risborough.

Its implementation will “unlock” an area west of the town where 2,350 new homes will be built.

The expansion is set out in the Wycombe District Local Plan, approved in August 2019.

Additional to the Southern Relief Road, other infrastructures in the expansion project include two new primary schools, recreational spots, and a community hub.

The Highways Infrastructure Fund awarded the council a grant towards the initial stages of the road.

Phases of the relief road will be constructed alongside housing delivery, the council said.

And it is expected the first phase will be fully constructed by the time around 1,400 homes are built.

The major highway will divert traffic from the town currently using the A4010 and features a tree-lined “avenue” with a walking and cycle route.

A new rail bridge at Summerleys Road and Grove Lane is also included.

Some of the developers involved in the construction of the 2,350 properties include Halsbury Homes, Persimmon Homes, Taylor Wimpey, Wates Developments and Bloor Homes.

Provision is also being made for some self-builds.

The council’s policy is for nearly half (48 per cent) of the new properties to be affordable.

The construction of 96 properties on the former Leo Laboratories site on Longwick Road is already well underway.

A public consultation will take place on the design of the first phase of the relief road in 2021.
