They went on to say that 'on some occasions the vaccine has been offered to officers and staff on an 'ad hoc basis' to use up any surplus vaccine that might have otherwise gone to waste.

A statement from Thames Valley Police said today:

"To confirm, some Thames Valley Police officers and staff have been offered a vaccination against Coronavirus.

"This is due to them being in one of the priority groups or on some occasions the vaccine has been offered to officers and staff on an ad hoc basis to use up any surplus vaccine which would have otherwise gone to waste."

Thames Valley Police Federation, who are part of the The Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW) is the staff association for police constables, sergeants and inspectors (including chief inspectors), having first established in 1919.

A statement from Craig O'Leary, the head of the TVP branch said:

"We are extremely grateful to the vaccination centres thinking of our Policing colleagues when it comes to offering surplus vaccines on an adhoc basis.

"That said, The Police Federation of England and Wales and all 43 Local Branch Chairs have said to Government that its unacceptable to not prioritise Police Officers in the next round of vaccinations when they are exposed to the constant risks of dealing with many people on a daily basis in society.

"It makes complete sense to vaccinate the Police and other key workers that are subject to these conditions as way to stop this virus spreading.

"Of course we understand that we must look after the most vulnerable in society first and that is the right thing to do.

"We must also look after our frontline Police Officers and other emergency workers who perform a crucial role in society.
