London Underground works force closure of Aylesbury rail line into the capital

Upgrade works at an adjoining London Underground rail line will cause the temporary closure of a route between Aylesbury and the capital.

Chiltern Railways confirmed that from tomorrow until Sunday, no trains will run between London Marylebone and Aylesbury Vale Parkway via Amersham.

Replacement buses will be deployed at Beaconsfield and Aylesbury Vale Parkway and will also stop at stations in Amersham, Great Missenden, Wendover, Stoke Mandeville, and Aylesbury.

This temporary closure of the commuter line is linked to London Underground signalling upgrade works on the Metropolitan Line which serves several stations which also run Chiltern Railways trains.

Transport for London has also arranged for replacement buses running between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Amersham, with stops at Rickmansworth, Chorleywood and Chalfont & Latimer amongst other TfL stations. However, Chiltern Railways warns that roadworks in the Chorleywood and Rickmansworth area will significantly increase journey times and longer distance bus journeys will require a change at Rickmansworth.

A spokesperson for Chiltern Railways advises: “Customers travelling on Chiltern Railways rail replacement buses along the closed section of line are encouraged to buy paper tickets to ensure that they pay the correct fare for their journeys. This is due to time limits on journeys which could be breached as a result of the longer journeys on rail replacement buses.”

The transport company is also advising Aylesbury commuters to travel via Princes Risborough.

Michael Stewart, commercial and customer strategy director at Chiltern Railways, said: “I recognise that this closure will significantly inconvenience our customers travelling in the area and I would like to thank them for their patience as the signalling works are carried out. The work is crucial to ensure the future reliability of journeys.

“If you are travelling between London Marylebone and Aylesbury Vale Parkway via Amersham, please check your journey ahead of setting out as it will be heavily disrupted for four days from Thursday February 19.”

More details and an amended timeline can be viewed on the Chiltern Railways website. Chiltern Railways is still running its Aylesbury to London Marylebone via High Wycombe service over the weekend. During peak hours on Thursday and Friday there will be three direct trains from London Marylebone to Aylesbury going via High Wycombe.
