The ex-Aylesbury Grammar School pupil will be taking on a gruelling seven day, 1000 mile unsupported cycle to John O'Groats this September.

Alexander said: "As a GP I have unfortunately seen an increase in domestic abuse over Lockdown, and wanted to support the very valuable work Aylesbury Women's Aid do for women and children who experience this.

"It's been a less visible consequence of Covid-19, but I have seen a huge rise in domestic abuse.

"As a local GP, I know what great work Aylesbury Women's Aid do, and I would like to support them by raising as much money as possible.

"Please support me and my legs in raising money for AWA if you can. Any donations very gratefully received.

"Will be cycling with a friend, but otherwise unsupported on the ride."

One domestic abuse call was made to police every 30 seconds in the first seven weeks of lockdown.

According to an investigation by the BBC’s Panorama, domestic abuse against women surged during the pandemic, with two-thirds of women in abusive relationships having suffered more violence.

Three-quarters of victims also say the lockdown has made it more difficult to escape their abusers.
