Get your tax return in on time

Taxpayers who fill in their self assessment returns on paper have been warned to file them with HM Revenue and Customs by October 31 or face a £100 penalty.

Around 114,000 people in Buckinghamshire file a self assessment return every year and the taxman wants to encourage the third of them who do not do so online to consider the ease of doing it electronically.

Three quarters of self assessment filers already do it online, taking advantage of the three more months they get.

HMRC say online filing has other advantages too: tax is calculated automatically; an immediate online acknowledgement is sent and it’s processed faster.
