The contract for the work has been awarded to 'Urban Movement', who will now undertake a scoping exercise to identify the route.

Encircling Aylesbury, The Garden Town project say 'the Gardenway will deliver an 18km long orbital park of fully connected green and blue infrastructure, local parks, woodlands, playgrounds, community gardens, natural areas, waterways, and heritage sites.'

The is the first project put forward as part of the Aylesbury Garden Town Masterplan.

They say it has received 'huge public support' after going out to public consultation earlier this year.

Cllr. Steve Bowles, Aylesbury Garden Town’s Board Chairman and Buckinghamshire Council Cabinet Member for Town Centre Regeneration said: "This contract award recognises the strength of Urban Movement’s experience to work with communities to co-design and co-create large public realm projects.”

“The construction of the Gardenway will take place in stages and will take many years to complete but the conceptual parameter design will give us what we need to identify the different sections and to start working with our local communities so key to seeing the project become a reality.”

Christopher Martin, Co-Founder and Director or Urban Strategy at Urban Movement, said: “We are excited to have been selected to work on such a transformational project for Aylesbury, and exemplar project to inspire others.

"Working with local people to create greener and healthier towns has never been so important.”

Aylesbury was awarded Garden Town status by the government in January 2017. It recognised that the town is going to be one of the key areas for growth in the UK, with just over 16,000 new homes planned.
