Can your Aylesbury games room win the national 'Games Room of the Year' prize?

Now, it’s time to decide who is destined for 2020’s leaderboard, with the grand prize of a whopping £1,000 cash up for grabs, it’s up to the public to vote for the winner.

The Bucks Herald is putting out an appeal to Aylesbury Locals to send in their pictures of the best games rooms across the Vale.

South Gloucestershire based Home Leisure Direct, has brought back Games Room of the Year for a lockdown special.

During 2020 staying “in-in” has become the new “out-out” as more and more people invest time and creativity into their very own pride and joy. Whilst several pubs and clubs are being forced to shut their doors many Brits are spending their lockdown in style.

Andy Beresford, co-founder of Home Leisure Direct announced: “This year has been like no other. Families have spent more time at home, so building an “oasis” in which to entertain themselves and their family has given people purpose by having a project to work on”.

“Customers have been telling us they are keen to get themselves and their family away from their screens, having been working or studying from home. Playing a game of pool or pinball is a welcome change.”

The competition continues to not disappoint as huge numbers of entries roll in from around the country. Previous years nominations have seen garages, sheds and attics revamped into arcades, cinema dens and home pubs. What better way to hibernate this winter than in your very own games room.

Andy added, “The variety in these creations has been huge, from converted garages, spare rooms, extensions, dining rooms, kitchen/diners, to garden cabins and pub sheds. We love to see what people have created, and so do our customers. So, Games Room of the Year gives everyone an opportunity to show what they have built and for others to get inspiration for their project. After all, what’s more fun than building your own games room?!”

Bedford finalist Ryan Narang described why he thinks his games room should be crowned winner, "This whole build was constructed for the pure purpose of creating a games room unlike the likes of anything we had seen before, and absolutely everything has been purposely selected to complement its surroundings—a mix of a modern, contemporary style with all the classic games. Home Leisure Direct has been fundamental to creating our games room; the source of our pool table, NU-GEN console, air hockey table and other accessories."

2018's Games Room of the Year was won by Ryan Paterson of Dundee, Scotland, and his fantastic tribute to Dundee FC - The Derry Bar. Named after one of the stands at Den's Park that generations of Ryan's family have been watching matches from for years, The Derry Bar is a beautifully finished space in Ryan's garden. The room was built by Ryan out of his love for Dundee FC over the course of 6 months in between going to Den's Park on the weekends for matches.

Gary Lee’s Red and White den is among several entrants in the running for Games Room of the Year complete with a retro arcade machine, a red cloth pool table with matching red lighting, and a fridge full of beers.

The walls of Baij Patel’s home cinema are packed full of movie posters to give a real cinematic feel whilst watching some of the latest blockbusters. Also kitted out with a football table and table tennis, this games room has every element to create serious fun.

John Foley had to put down his pints at the pub but has been able to enjoy the rule of six in his very own pub style games room. With beer on draught, an impressive collection of footy shirts and a classic pub pool table you would be tricked into thinking you’re down your local.

The submitted entries have been narrowed down by the Home Leisure Direct team to 10 finalists, now it's time for the public to vote for their favourite entry.
