A trio of Blackadder treats by Stewkley Players

Fans of Blackadder have a veritable feast to look forward to as three episodes of the popular comedy show are brought to the stage next week.

The very talented Stewkley Players are presenting Blackadders’s Christmas Carol, Bells and Amy and Amiability in their comfortable village hall (where the seats are padded)from Wednesday November 18 for four nights.

Stewkley Players celebrate their 60th annviersary this year, and so decided to mark it with the trio of shows from the much loved BBC comedy.

Blackadder’s Christmas Carol parodies Charles Dicken’s classic novel. The episode sees Ebeneezer Blackadder start off as the nicest man in England but end up as the most horrible man in the world when a well meaning Spirit of Christmas inadvertently shows him that bad guys have all the fun.

Stewkley Players version may be the first to feature two Blackadders and two Baldricks, as they underline the difference between the dreadful characters from history and the rather more pleasant (for a while at least) Victorian version.

Bells is set in the Elizabethan period and tells the tale of Lord Edmund Blackadder who falls in love with a woman disguised as a boy.

Amy and Amiability sees Blackadder help the Prince Regent find a rich wife, and they decide the best (and only) option is Amy Hardwood, daughter of a noted industrialsit. But is Amy all that she seems?

The production has a big cast and three producers and the company are looking forward to bringing their work to the stage.

The shows are at 8pm from Wednesday November 18 through to Saturday 21. Doors open 7.30pm. There is a licensed bar. Tickets £6 from 07845 489167 or the village hall box office on Sunday (November 15) from 10am to noon.
