Scott, from Pitstone, battled through three rounds to reach the semi-finals of the show and on Thursday he was up against two other chefs – with one set to miss out on the final.

Thursday’s programme saw the 33-year-old work with the head chef Lisa Allen at the Michelin-starred Northcote in Lancashire, where he was given a tricky wood pigeon dish to prepare and then a chocolate desert.

Lisa was delighted with his efforts, saying: “I enjoyed having you in the kitchen.”

It was then back to the MasterChef studio to cook a John Dory fish dish followed by a honeycomb mouse, which received glowing praise from judges Marcus Wareing and Monica Galetti.

After being put through to the final, Scott declared he was “absolutely buzzing”.

He will appear next on TV on Tuesday when the final five will be whittled down to four as they cook for Michelin-star chefs. On Wednesday, another episode will see four become three after an invention test, with the remaining trio competing on Christmas Eve in the last stage of the final as they prepare a three-course menu for the judges.
